It is a little distressing at times to look back and reflect on what you have done (or have not done).

I had a chat with a friend over the weekend about how fast time flies this year. It’s mid year already. We are now through to the second half of 2014.

In World Cup term (because of course my life currently revolves around the world football tournament), I think my life right now is a boring 0-0 at half time. No defeat, but nothing to be proud of either.

But that’s not the point of reflecting. If you are merely reflecting to get yourself down and all depressed and stuff, then why bother reflecting at all.

So let’s be productive in our reflections. And let’s think through the first half of 2014 and see what we have achieved, what we have restrained due to fear that we can now move forward without hesitations, and which resolutions are we close to completing (or have at least started)…

I’ll start with my own. But I expect you to follow along and do your own thinking and reflecting.

Goals and Resolutions

Spain v Netherlands: Group B - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

At the start of the year, I promised myself some of these things

  • Read another 6 books
  • Blog at least 1x a week
  • Read the Bible & blog it
  • Start a project
  • Do not read comments on most internet articles
  • Time management is key
  • Find a second income
  • More dates with the hubby
  • Live a healthier life
  • Celebrate my 30th birthday!

Good to know I’ve done 1/10. Yes, I celebrated my birthday in style. Woohoo! Congratulations.

What about the rest? Well, I’m halfway through my first book of the year. I’ve been blogging regularly, but not once a week. I have yet to pen down the Bible reading reflections. Project hasn’t started, although I’ve put more thoughts into it. I’m still reading stupid comments on the internet. No second income, yet. And yes, I’m still struggling with living a healthier life, but that almost comes as no surprise. I’d like to think I’ve been managing my time better, but I think not.

And I totally forgot that one of my resolutions is to have more dates with the hubby! We need to have more dates, for sho.

Events and Highlights

I celebrated my 30th birthday. It was rather uneventful on the day itself actually. But I did it. And I had a Japanese high school birthday party that I had fun planning for. And I am now 30, so I did it. Age is, however, one of those achievements that is sort of a non-achievement. In fact, I don’t think it’s an achievement at all once you get over 30. Lol.

On a better note, there have been plenty of little milestones at work. At the start of this year, I’ve only been in the job for half a year, but now I’ve reached my one year mark in my job as a Communications Manager. And we, the team, have achieved quite a few things that I’m proud of. Work that I’m proud of – and it’s not something I had to do on the side. How awesome is that?!

What’s next in 2014?

I don’t know. But I’m quite excited about what’s coming up. In terms of work: to do more meaningful work. In terms of life: to conquer fear and do things that I’ve always wanted to. So let’s not continue the race and we shall do more reflecting at the end of the year, shall we?

How are you going with your 2014 resolutions? What are some of your struggles?
